Deeper Connections

Salesforce held its Connections 2016 user event in Atlanta earlier this month. About 7,000 people attended, but in the Georgia World Congress Center and airplane hangar, attendance seemed smallish. It might have been held down by Gov. Nathan Deal’s slow response to vetoing a religious freedom law largely seen as discriminating against the LGBT community. This isn’t a story about politics, but Salesforce has been a leader in things such as pay parity for women and its willingness to stay out of states that appear to legislate discrimination.

Tweets May Soon Breeze Past 140-Character Limit

In an effort to better monetize its platform and boost user traffic, Twitter may relax the 140-character limit on individual tweets by no longer counting photos and Web links. The tweak could take place within two weeks, according to a report that cited an unnamed source who asked for anonymity because the decision had not yet been made public. CEO Jack Dorsey hinted at the move earlier this year when he tweeted an elaborate screenshot containing more than 1,300 characters.

Windows 10 Gains on 7, Inch by Inch

Windows 10 last month had more user share than Windows XP and Windows 8, according to data released by NetMarketShare. It held 11.85 percent of the global OS market, though Windows 7 was still No. 1 with 52.47 percent. Though adoption has slowed, the NetMarketShare numbers helped validate Microsoft’s claim last month that Windows 10 was active on 200 million devices. Windows 10 dashed out to a 4.8 percent gain in user share in August, after launching the previous month. For January, the OS gained about 1.9 percent of global user share.

The Mystery of the Missing LinkedIn Post Views

There’s a disconnect between the number of connections a LinkedIn user has and the number of post views attracted, one LinkedIn influencer has noticed. This gulf between the numbers of followers and post views was noticed by Itai Leshem. Prepping his startup for the launchpad, Leshem dug into LinkedIn’s post distribution data for about six hours one day.
