The Why of Customers

SAS Institute introduced SAS Customer Intelligence 360 at its recent Global Forum meeting. Intelligence 360 has some good ideas baked in, though some of the messaging I heard wasn’t up to the level of the product or at least its intention. I suspect that will come, and it’s an easy fix. The product set is divided into two major components, Discover and Engage. As you might intuit from the names, Discover is oriented to data capture from customer interactions, and Engage is about gleaning insights from the captured data.

NIST Risk-Assessment Framework Shapes Federal Cybersecurity Strategy

The U.S. government is under pressure to improve cybersecurity and is meeting that challenge with a commitment to substantially enhance spending for protecting IT systems. The Obama administration projected that the federal budget for cybersecurity spending in fiscal 2016 would be about $14 billion — an increase of $1.4 billion from 2015. That funding level represents strong support not only to safeguard agency operations, but also to protect millions of citizens whose personal data resides on federal IT systems.

Time Warner Possibilities Put Glint in Apple's Eye

Time Warner CEO Jeffrey Bewkes this week hinted at a meeting with investors that he might consider a sale of the company, according to a news report. Apple, which reportedly is interested in purchasing Time Warner or its media assets, is keeping a close eye on the discussions. Buying Time Warner’s assets would give the flailing Apple TV streaming service much-needed programming: CNN, Turner Sports, shows such as “Sesame Street” and “Game of Thrones,” as well as movies and TV shows from Warner Bros.

Yahoo May Be on Road to Oblivion

Up for discussion at Yahoo’s next board of directors meeting is the sale of its Bing-powered search, longstanding mail service, aggregator-propped news platform, and the rest of the company’s Internet business, according to reports. The possible spinoff of Yahoo’s 15 percent stake in Alibaba also may be on the table. Yahoo has struggled mightily over the last decade. One of the pioneers of the Internet age and a survivor of the Internet bubble, Yahoo’s resiliency hasn’t enabled it to retain relevancy, said Andy Abramson, CEO of Comunicano.
