Apple Earnings Sag on Lower iPhone Price Points


Apple on Tuesday reported lower earnings in the third-quarter as the global saturation of smartphones continued to put pressure on its core iPhone business. However, officials remained upbeat. The company reported stronger-than-expected metrics and has been able to grow its software and services business while expanding into key overseas markets. Apple reported net income of $7.8 billion, or $1.42 a share, in the third quarter, compared with 10.7 billion a year ago. Revenue fell to $42.4 billion, compared with $49.6 billion a year ago.

Supreme Court Snubs Google's AdWords Appeal


The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear Google’s appeal of a lower court ruling in a suit alleging the company used deceptive practices in the sale and placement of advertising through its AdWords program between 2004 and 2008. Google, a unit of Alphabet, sought to overturn the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals September 2015 ruling that the lawsuit could go forward as a class action case. The case, originally filed in 2008, alleges that Google placed clients’ advertising on parked domain and error pages.

Dropbox Pro Pricing Takes a Nosedive


Dropbox last week announced a Pro cloud-storage overhaul that includes new features and lower pricing. Improved security and better sharing controls are the focus of the new features, while a simplified pricing plan offers all Dropbox Pro users a full terabyte of storage for $9.99 per month. Previously, multiple pricing options were available: 100 GB, 200 GB or 500 GB of storage for $9.99, $19.99 or $49.99 per month, respectively. “This is a smart move on Dropbox’s part,” said Trip Chowdhry, a senior analyst with Global Equities Research.
