Apple to Boost App Store Money-Making Opportunities

Apple is planning a major overhaul of its App Store, including the introduction of a new subscription model for developers and the implementation of a paid search ad program, SVP Phil Schiller indicated in interviews ahead of the company’s Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco next week. The move may help to offset flagging iPhone sales. To encourage developers to sell their apps on a subscription basis, Apple plans to change the current 70/30 revenue-sharing structure, potentially increasing the developer’s share.

Apple Watch Sales Sink

After a glorious first week of sales following its introduction in April, sales have slid rapidly for the Apple Watch, according to Slice Intelligence. Sales have plummeted to fewer than 20,000 units a day, down from an average of 200,000 a day during its launch week, reported Slice, which measures online purchasing activity through an app used by consumers. “What we’re seeing is a massive drop-off in Apple Watch sales pretty much after the first day that they were sold,” said Slice Intelligence VP of Marketing Jaimee Minney.

The Wearables Revolution

The wearables market heated up last week with Apple’s introduction of its Watch and payment processing service, and the implications for CRM are interesting. First off, the announcement shows how very young the wearables marketplace is and how far it has to go.
