Comcast, Google Can Publish Users' Email Contents

Comcast’s Terms of Service for its Xfinity Internet service gives it, its agents, suppliers and affiliates the right to “reproduce, publish, distribute and display” the content worldwide. It also lets third parties copy, republish or distribute material posted or transmitted using Xfinity Internet. This would include confidential information sent by a company employee or an independent contractor to authorized persons over the service, independent security analyst Randy Abrams warned Tuesday.

Reasoning in CRM

It gives some measure of the importance we give to AI that I went to two conferences last week and sat through two panel sessions on the subject. At CRM Evolution, I was part of the discussion in a breakfast session. At the Oracle CX show, executives involved in the adaptive intelligent applications product line tried to define the basics. I have to say that neither session was especially illuminating, which is not to cast aspersions on any of the participants but more to provide a gauge of how early we still are in the market cycle.

Yelp Study Blasts Google for Screwing With Search

Google has been tampering with the responses its search engine gives to queries and, as a result, has been hurting social welfare, alleges a survey conducted by Michael Luca, a Harvard Business School economist, and Tim Wu, a professor at Columbia Law School and former Federal Trade Commission advisor. Yelp sponsored the research.
The team last week sent a paper reporting the results to the European Commission. It was presented at the Antitrust Enforcement Symposium in Oxford, England, over the weekend.

Popular trivia game QuizUp on Thursday issued an update that gives players access to a broader array of social networking tools. Users’ exchanges had been spilling out of the trivia app and into forums, so developer Plain Vanilla Games decided it was time to build out the game’s social features. QuizUp now aims to connect users through their shared interests, while staying put on its trivia game foundation, the company said.
QuizUp’s latest update gives quiz topics their own pages, where users who have similar interests can chat and share information with one another.

What the Buyer Sees

Partner Relationship Management gives a lot of attention to the vendor and partner relationship, and it should. But it’s worth remembering that as important as this relationship is, the one that really counts involves an end customer. So what does the end customer need from a channel partner that a PRM system can uniquely provide? I’d say the most important partner deliverable is intangible — trust. A customer needs to feel good about a purchase; without that, nothing else matters.

Facebook Asks Users to Bare Souls Over Ad Hiding

Facebook on Thursday updated its ad policy with two changes. One gives users the option of explaining why they don’t want to see a specific ad in their News Feed when they click to hide the ad. The second update takes this new policy a step further by giving more weight to the feedback provided from users who rarely hide ads. Users previously could opt to hide an ad they didn’t like, and that was the end of the process. That is still the procedure — but now they are presented with a window displaying questions about why they don’t want the ad.
