Fresh Takes on Shipping Perishable Online Purchases

It’s one thing to ship books and electronics across the U.S. — but it’s quite another to get fresh fruit, baked goods, meat, fish, prepared meals, raw meal ingredients, and other perishables to consumers’ front doors in prime condition. Once perishables are delivered to a customer’s door, they often have to sit there for an unpredictable amount of time before the customer gets home, which further complicates things. Cooled packages have been around for some time now, but most are not really at the level shippers and customers want them to be.

This robot needs just a few seconds to learn to walk again after you break its legs

Futurama, Bender in pieces
Some foolhardy roboticists in France, who clearly haven’t read enough sci-fi books, have created a robot that can recover from a broken leg. More accurately, if the robot is immobilized by a broken leg, it only takes a few seconds for it to learn how to walk again, using a new gait that minimizes the impact of the broken leg. If robots are to become truly useful, they’ll have to be able to autonomously recover from damaged circuits and broken limbs.
