Every year in advance of the Super Bowl, there are big sales on TVs, and this year is no exception. It also could be a milestone, as TVs could be bottoming out. TV prices are near a record low, yet sales continue to slip. In the long run, that won’t be good for the industry or consumers. There was an “abrupt weakening of global demand for TV sets,” IHS Markit concluded last year. That finding is consistent with the fact that most consumers in America, Europe and parts of Asia today have two or more TV sets in their homes.

Open Mainframe Project Pushes Linux's Limits


The Linux Foundation on Monday announced the formation of the Open Mainframe Project to advance the development of Linux on the mainframe among academia, government and corporate partners. The foundation announced the software consortium at the LinuxCon/CloudOpen/ContainerCon gathering in Seattle. Linux on the mainframe is nothing new. It has been on the IBM mainframe for the last 15 years. However, the Open Mainframe Project will create a set of tools and resources to drive further development, collaboration and improvements.

Oculus Rift 1.0 will ship in Q1 2016 with an Xbox One controller
