HPE Gave Russia Deep Dive Into Security Software Used by Pentagon

Hewlett Packard Enterprise reportedly has allowed experts working with Russia to review the source code of cybersecurity software that is used by the U.S. Defense Department. The Pentagon uses HPE’s ArcSight software to protect sensitive computer networks. The review of its code was conducted by Russian firm Echelon on behalf of a Russian defense agency that deals with cybersecurity issues. “All testing was done in HPE controlled sites and entirely under the supervision of HPE’s cybersecurity specialists,” HPE said.

My obsession with custom mechanical keyboards is well-established at this point. I don’t technically need more keyboards. So, if I’m going to add to my collection, I want to make sure it’s something distinctive and cool.

How important is Amazon's NFL deal for Amazon and the future of the league?

Amazon is set to begin hosting the first of its 10 Thursday Night Football games with tonight’s match-up between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. As consumers continue to be faced with a deluge of content options and cord-cutting becomes more popular, it remains to be seen whether consumers will fork out an extra $99 per year for something they can already get for free.

Einstein Tries Sales Forecasting

When Salesforce unveiled sales forecasting with its AI tool, Einstein, my immediate reaction was that it should have tried something easier — like solving global warming. A sales forecast that bears some resemblance to reality has been a grail quest for all of us for many years, and Salesforce is not the first software company to throw its hat in the ring. It’s not that the company should have tackled an easier problem, but that the success of a sales forecast is inversely proportional to the amount of human involvement in producing it.

Innovation Requires Market Enablement

In this age of tech industry consolidation, one has to wonder what will happen with the pace of innovation as a few large companies begin to dominate. In personal computers, the WinTel marriage continues to control the technology, while Dell, HP and Lenovo control the devices. Similarly, in smartphones, Apple and Samsung, which both design their own chips and devices, dominate the market, especially in North America. It is natural for market leaders to emerge as technologies and markets mature. However, that maturity often is accompanied by a change in the strategy of key players.
