OTA Report: Consumer Services Sites More Trustworthy Than .Gov Sites


The Online Trust Alliance on Tuesday released its 2017 Online Trust Audit & Honor Roll. Among its findings: Consumer services sites have the best combined security and privacy practices. FDIC 100 banks and U.S. government sites are the least trustworthy. The number of websites that qualified for the Honor Roll reached a nine-year high. However, the audit identified an alarming three-year trend: Increasingly, sites either take privacy and security seriously and do well in the audit, or they lag behind significantly in one or more critical areas.

Amazon Shares Hit Milestone as E-Commerce Battle Heats Up

Salesforce Rejiggers Enterprise Apps Partner Plan


Salesforce on Tuesday launched the AppExchange Partner Program, or APP, for developers, independent software vendors and startups, as a replacement for its current ISV Partner Program. The APP will cost much less. Its baseline percent-net-revenue model for all new APP partners has been slashed from 25 percent to 15 percent. Current partners will be eligible for the new PNR terms on contract renewal. Partner tiers will be eliminated. The APP provides enablement and support based on the partner’s AppExchange Trailblazer Score, a new point-based system.

Kingsoft on Tuesday announced that it has expanded its WPS Office suite to include WPS Cloud. The upgrade enables users to work in a cross-platform office suite environment with added storage, file roaming and sharing capabilities. The cloud-enhanced version is available for PCs and mobile as a fully functional free release and with premium subscriptions. It runs on Linux, Windows, Mac and Android devices. The free version is ad-supported. Today’s mobile users are accustomed to ad-supported apps and other software, according to Kingsoft.

Twitch Aims to Get Ahead of Steam


Twitch, the Amazon-owned live-streaming video platform, on Tuesday launched its highly anticipated online game store. House Votes to Kill Privacy Rules Binding ISPs


The United States House of Representatives on Tuesday approved the Congressional Review Act, undoing privacy restrictions imposed on Internet service providers during the Obama administration. The Senate passed the CRA last week in a 50-48 vote along party lines. Amazon Confirms Deal to Buy Middle East E-Commerce Leader Souq.com


Amazon on Tuesday confirmed that it has agreed to buy Souq.com, the leading online retailer in the Middle East, reportedly edging out rival Emaar Malls’ $800 million offer. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Amazon reportedly agreed to pay less for Souq than Emaar had offered. Souq, led by cofounder and CEO Ronaldo Mouchawar, claims to be the largest online retail and marketplace platform in the Arab world, selling more than 8.4 million products across 31 retail categories.
