Will Amazon Go Reinvent Retail?

Every time I walk into a retail store, I complain. I grumble to my wife about the same pet peeve every time we go shopping. After walking the aisles and filling the basket, you then must go through the most inefficient checkout process. First you unload everything, then it’s rung up, then you put the items in bags that go back into your basket before you can walk out of the store. There must be a better way. Amazon Go suggests there is. Shouldn’t it be easy, with today’s technology, to cut through the mess and reinvent this process?

Apple's Great App Store Sales May Not Signify Much

Apple’s App Store racked up an all-time high of $240 million in sales on the first day of this year. On the whole, 2016 was a very good year for Apple devs, who earned more than $20 billion for their apps — up 40 percent over 2015. “Apple has always had the most profitable ecosystem and app market in terms of revenue per user and price per app,” said Holger Mueller, a principal analyst at Constellation Research. Super Mario Run was the most downloaded app worldwide on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Amazon's Register-Free Grocery Shopping Could Disrupt Retail

Amazon on Monday unveiled a prototype convenience store called “Amazon Go,” which uses mobile e-commerce, machine learning and computer vision to allow customers to make purchases without a cashier. The 1,800 square foot concept store in Seattle uses the company’s Just Walk Out technology, which incorporates many of the same concepts found in self-driving cars, Amazon said.
Customers use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, then pluck items off the shelves. Anything a customer takes off a shelf is added to a virtual shopping cart.
