Quip Adds Serious Muscle


Salesforce has announced new integrations for Quip, the collaboration startup it acquired last summer for $582 million. Quip, which operates independently, also added new capabilities to its product’s existing feature set, which includes smart notifications, chat built into every document and spreadsheet, and a smart inbox. Quip lets users direct-message group members. Users can insert items such as code, images, cells and spreadsheets into a document. The new integrations Salesforce introduced are Quip Connect and the Quip Lightning Component.

Facebook Launches Paris Startup Garage to Promote Entrepreneurs in Europe


Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg on Tuesday announced the Startup Garage, the company’s first-ever business incubator, which will be located in Paris at the new Station F hub launched last year. The Startup Garage will provide a six-month program of mentorship and assistance for new companies. About10-15 data-related startup firms will occupy up to 80 desks at the Station F campus. Facebook will provide a range of services, including marketing, UX/UI design assistance, focus groups and technical development.

Uber Sees Gold in Autonomous Vehicle Field


Uber has announced the acquisition of startup Geometric Intelligence, a move designed to increase its presence in the autonomous vehicle technology field. Geometric CEO Gary Marcus will become the chief of Uber’s new artificial intelligence business. He will lead the newly formed Uber AI Labs, which will be dedicated to conducting research into artificial intelligence and machine learning, according to Jeff Holden, the company’s chief product officer. CNN Taps Beme Talent to Cultivate Millennials

CNN plans to launch a new branded subsidiary featuring timely and topical video content by the summer of 2017.
