Amazon Sneaks In Third-Party Seller Discounts

Amazon recently began reducing prices on merchandise sold by third-party sellers, ratcheting up its market share competition with discount stores, including Walmart and Dollar General. The company has started to display a new tag, “Discount Provided by Amazon.” Price cuts so far have been a little less than 10 percent on goods sold by independent retailers. Amazon has been making the cuts unilaterally and absorbing the losses itself, in order to provide customers with lower prices on an increasingly important mix of products.

Nutshell CTO Andy Fowler: Good CRM Tools Stay Out of the Way

“CRM was originally created for the managers and bosses to report on the pipeline, and it was sold as a value proposition to the manager,” noted Nutshell CTO Andy Fowler. “What’s changing now is that CRM is becoming much more about supporting the rep — giving them the tools they need to improve their performance. It’s no longer just a tool for the boss to check in on the salespeople. If [salespeople] see the intrinsic value of the CRM tool they’re using, that motivates them.”

It's Time for Comcast to Get Off the Wireless Fence

Comcast tried to give wireless a go several years ago. It failed. It pulled out of wireless, sold its spectrum and was done. Now, wireless has expanded and changed, and competitors like AT&T’s U-verse and DirecTV are using wireless to deliver television programming. I’ll bet Comcast now wishes it never sold off its wireless spectrum. So, what can we expect from the company going forward in the wireless space? If it jumps in again, will it be successful this time around?
Comcast recently acknowledged it was weighing its options in wireless.

China Subjects Tech Imports to Heavy Security Scrutiny

China reportedly is investigating the encryption and data storage features of technology products sold there by large foreign companies to determine whether the products pose a security threat. A committee associated with the Cyberspace Administration of China reportedly is conducting reviews that include interviews of company executives and other employees. Other countries, including the U.S. and the UK, do review some tech products, but they tend to focus on those to be used by the military or government departments involved with security.
