Helpshift VP Tushar Makhija: Not All Customers Will Help You Make Money

“As services are getting more and more mobile, service needs to get mobile as well,” said Tushar Makhija, vice president of revenue at Helpshift. “If you look at customer service over the last 10 to 15 years, first it was all about average handling time. If you grew quickly as a business, you needed to stack up a call center. The next five to six years were all about self-service, so technology started building up. Today, it is not about time-to-resolution or handling time. It is all about the time-to-cure.

AWS to Sell Cloud Services by the Second

Amazon Web Services on Monday unveiled a new per-second pricing plan for EC2 instances and EBS volumes, which will take effect Oct. 2. The new pricing for Elastic Compute Cloud and Elastic Block Storage used with EC2 instances will allow greater flexibility and efficiency for customers wanting to expand their use of cloud computing data, AWS said. When EC2 launched in 2006, the only way to pay for the service was in one-hour increments, recalled Jeff Barr, chief evangelist at AWS.

Every indication is that the adoption of cloud services will continue to accelerate as more and more organizations discover the economic value of moving to on-demand solutions.

How to fix it when sites show you the wrong ads and recommendations

“You might also like…”This mantra is spread all over the internet, because services are always recommending things to you: songs, books, articles, movies, boots … even bed frames. Ads and suggestions seem to follow you everywhere. On social media, algorithms control even the news and updates you see on your screen.

Wireless, telecom and pay TV — including cable, satellite and Internet services — are all on a growth trajectory, but each company is taking a different path. That means comparing them will be more difficult going forward. In the past, the companies in these sectors in many respects looked the same and offered nearly the same basic services. Looking forward however, things appear very different. The future is all about the cloud, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, cognitive computing and much more.

It likely will offer its content through an over-the-top service similar to Netflix. The move to original TV content could be a major leap forward for Apple to promote not only its devices but its content delivery system.
