Softbank Vision Fund Attracts $93B From Gulf States, Apple, Others


The Softbank Vision Fund has closed its first major funding round raising more than $93 billion in capital from the Gulf states, as well as tech stalwarts Apple, Qualcomm and others. Softbank, which last fall launched the fund with backing from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, said it has received new commitments from the Mubadala Investment Fund from the United Arab Emirates. The Softbank Vision Fund, which has targeted a $100 billion close within six months, also received commitment pledges from Foxconn and Sharp.

Pipedrive Attracts Funds for Global Expansion


Pipedrive, a CRM manager that targets the end-user salesperson, has raised $17 million in a round of Series B funding from an investor group led by Atomico. Two of the company’s original investors, Bessemer Venture Partners and Rembrandt Ventures, participated in the new round as well. Pipedrive intends to use the funding to accelerate product development, hire additional staff, increase investment in infrastructure, and grow its ecosystem of partners. It will tap Atomico’s expertise in helping companies grow on a global scale.

Ford, Microsoft Pour Cash Into Pivotal


Pivotal last week announced a $253 million round of Series C financing. Led by new investor Ford, together with Microsoft and previous investors GE, EMC and VMware, the deal is expected to close this month. Pivotal’s customers include seven of the top 10 U.S. banks, three global automakers and half the top 10 telecom companies. Its agile-based approach lets enterprises build and operate software rapidly, the company said.
