Has Marketing Automation Started Making Sense?

B2B marketing automation has a long way to go, suggest the results of a recent survey of more than 350 marketing professionals. Act-On Software commissioned Econsultancy to conduct the research for its State of B2B Marketing report released last week.
Only 51 percent of respondents said the CMO or equivalent took a keen interest in marketing automation, and just 37 percent said the issue got executive support outside the marketing department. Marketing automation “is a rapidly evolving industry,” noted Meg Columbia-Walsh, CEO of Wylei.

Windows Phone Is Dead and Surface Sales are Slipping

Microsoft's Surface has gone from a proof of concept into the spearhead of Microsoft's hardware business

Microsoft’s overall quarterly results were excellent, but the company’s hardware divisions were a different story. Decline in the Xbox market is expected, but a huge drop in Surface sales doesn’t look good. Meanwhile, Windows 10 Mobile is barely on life support.

Samsung's Note7 Post Mortem Turns Up 2 Problems

Samsung is set to release the results of its Galaxy Note7 investigation on Monday, explaining the underlying causes of the problems that led to the phone’s demise. The three independent quality control and supply chain analysis firms Samsung engaged to conduct the investigation concluded that the Note7 was affected by two separate issues. One was a battery issue; the other was the rush to market. The battery issue reportedly originated with batteries made by Samsung SDI, which did not fit inside the phone properly, leading some devices to overheat, catch fire or even explode.

Oracle's Cloud Strategy: A Fine Balance

Oracle recently held a call for analysts to discuss its results for the last quarter, and there were multiple bright spots. It was much like a similar call 90 days previous, and together the calls drove home the conclusion that Oracle is turning into a cloud company. A casual observer might not be convinced, since the macro numbers show a company barely growing. Oracle told the story succinctly: Total Revenues were $9.0 billion, flat in U.S. dollars and up 1 percent in constant currency. However, the apparent stasis actually was good news.
