Walmart Delivers E-Commerce Stunner


Walmart on Thursday reported soaring e-commerce growth during its fiscal first quarter, along with strong organic sales figures. Online sales grew a stunning 63 percent during the quarter, perhaps in response to the company’s newly introduced free two-day shipping and its upgraded mobile app. “We’re moving faster to combine our digital and physical assets to make shopping more enjoyable and faster for customers, but we also see plenty of room to improve,” CEO Doug McMillon said during the company’s quarterly conference call.

Facebook Share Price Falls Despite Blowout Quarter


Facebook on Wednesday reported a record Q3, beating analysts’ expectations for the fourth straight quarter, but investors’ concerns about the future drove down share prices. They closed Thursday at $119.95, down more than $7 from Wednesday’s closing price of $127.17. Friday saw little movement, with a closing price of $120.75. Facebook posted adjusted earnings of $1.09 per share on revenue of more than $7 billion for the quarter, compared with 57 cents per share and $4.5 billion in revenue in Q3 2015.

Odinaff Trojan Targets Banks, Financial Firms Worldwide


Symantec on Tuesday reported on a malware campaign that has targeted financial organizations worldwide for the past 10 months. Dubbed “Trojan.Odinaff,” it has infiltrated the banking, securities, trading and payroll sectors, as well as organizations that provide them with support services. Odinaff is used in the first stage of an attack, to get a foothold into a network. It provides a persistent presence, and lets users install additional tools onto the target network, Symantec explained.

Apple Earnings Sag on Lower iPhone Price Points


Apple on Tuesday reported lower earnings in the third-quarter as the global saturation of smartphones continued to put pressure on its core iPhone business. However, officials remained upbeat. The company reported stronger-than-expected metrics and has been able to grow its software and services business while expanding into key overseas markets. Apple reported net income of $7.8 billion, or $1.42 a share, in the third quarter, compared with 10.7 billion a year ago. Revenue fell to $42.4 billion, compared with $49.6 billion a year ago.
