How important is Amazon's NFL deal for Amazon and the future of the league?

Amazon is set to begin hosting the first of its 10 Thursday Night Football games with tonight’s match-up between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. As consumers continue to be faced with a deluge of content options and cord-cutting becomes more popular, it remains to be seen whether consumers will fork out an extra $99 per year for something they can already get for free.

Federal Agencies Mirror Commercial Websites for Encryption

Private and public sector organizations share a common goal in hosting Internet websites: making sure that connections with customers and citizens are secure. However, complete security is not yet universal in either sector. Google and Mozilla are among many entities promoting Internet security via the adoption of Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure technology, or HTTPS, versus the basic and less secure HTTP technology that underpins Internet service. Within the public sector, the federal CIO and the GSA are promoting HTTPS as well.

Facebook Aims to Turn Social Media Into 'the' Media

Facebook reportedly has been talking with multiple news organizations about hosting their content on its network, rather than linking to their websites. No deal has been finalized, but The New York Times, BuzzFeed and National Geographic are among its first likely partners. Although they’re still strong media brands, they may be interested in negotiating with Facebook now because they understand change is inevitable, and they would rather be on the vanguard than bringing up the rear.

Google's Great Big Ideas Camp

Google is hosting a conference in Sicily this week simply called the “Camp.” This is a different kind of conference. It’s not just about business. Attendees are from business, politics and entertainment — they bring their families. I have been invited to attend many of these types of events over the years by big companies like Emerson, Lucent, Nortel, Compaq and more. They’re held in glorious places like Palm Beach, Las Vegas and Maui and sometimes on cruise ships. These meetings are full of sun, sand, friendship and ideas.
