Kingsoft Adds Cloud Support to WPS Office


Kingsoft on Tuesday announced that it has expanded its WPS Office suite to include WPS Cloud. The upgrade enables users to work in a cross-platform office suite environment with added storage, file roaming and sharing capabilities. The cloud-enhanced version is available for PCs and mobile as a fully functional free release and with premium subscriptions. It runs on Linux, Windows, Mac and Android devices. The free version is ad-supported. Today’s mobile users are accustomed to ad-supported apps and other software, according to Kingsoft.

AWS Gives Customers On-Premises Linux Option


Amazon Web Services recently expanded its menu of cloud services to give customers the option of using the Amazon Linux AMI on premises. Customers can use the Amazon Container Image on premises for the purpose of developing and testing workloads, AWS Chief Evangelist Jeff Barr explained.
The AMI provides a stable, secure and high-performance environment for applications running on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, he said. “It is built from the same source code and packages as the AMI and will give you a smooth path to container adoption.”

Amazon Expands Free 2-Hour Delivery to Baltimore, Miami


Amazon on Thursday expanded Prime Now, its one-hour fulfillment service, to select ZIP codes in Miami and Baltimore. The service — which delivers thousands of products, including groceries — eventually will blanket both cities. Strategically placed warehouses in Baltimore and Miami now can respond to orders placed using the Prime Now app. Prime members get free delivery when they select two-hour fulfillment, or they can pay $8 to have their orders show up at their door within an hour.
