Analytics and Workflow

There’s a big difference between B2C and B2B analytics that no vendors seem to be addressing, and it involves the consumption model. I recently spoke with K.V. Rao, founder and chief strategy officer of Aviso, an analytics company focused on sales, and his unabashed opinion is that “if you’re trying to expose insights and make things consumable, you have to address workflow.” He made a very good point — especially for buyers who may be having trouble figuring out what they need. What processes or workflows are they trying to influence?

ACLU: Google is embarrassed by Android security, isn't protecting vulnerable users like Apple's iOS

Article Image The difference between encryption and security on iOS and Android isn’t just a technical issue but a “digital security divide,” according to the principal technologist for the American Civil Liberties Union. That’s because Apple secures its devices while Google leaves Android open to data collection and surveillance.

Dreamforce and Then Some

What a difference a decade makes. Ten years ago, the booths on the Dreamforce show floor were little more than outposts for widget-makers. Fast-forward to Dreamforce 2015, and one is struck by the number, variety, and size of the partner community. That’s only part of the story, though. Often out of sight is the sizable display of talent that has consolidated around Salesforce. A little more than 10 years ago, Siebel was the top dog — the first billion-dollar CRM company — and it held a large proportion of the available CRM talent.

To Personalize or to Be Authentic

You might ask what the difference is between personalization and authenticity in CRM, and the answer is subtle. For a long time I have felt — and said — that we overemphasize personalization when what customers really want is authenticity. However, examples are hard to find, especially with our current culture’s strong emphasis on personalization and the tendency to give authenticity quizzical looks. Perhaps you are feeling quizzical right now. Nonetheless, a perfect example turned up in an article titled “Learning to Speak Lingerie.”

Shame on Facebook

Do you remember those snotty little kids who didn’t seem to understand the difference between right and wrong? You know, the little brats who thought the rules didn’t apply to them. The kids who thought they could get away with whatever they wanted — rules were for somebody else. Well, that seems to be a fitting description of Facebook, as it repeatedly breaks customer trust and invades its users’ privacy. Everyone seems to hate this betrayal. What I don’t understand is why Facebook continues to get away with it.
