Epicor this week released Epicor Commerce Connect, a cloud-based application designed to help wholesale distributors quickly deploy e-commerce sites that will automate many of the functions to move product to their customers. The Commerce Connect software is now available for Epicor Eclipse, a cloud-based platform geared toward helping companies deploy rich B2B and B2C solutions to drive efficiencies along their distribution chain. “Today e-commerce is more than adding an online store to a website,” said VP Sanjay Kumar.

Commerce Dept Signs Up Private Sector IT Partners


The U.S. Commerce Department recently launched a new effort to jump-start more efficient ways to manage the vast amounts of data that reside within the federal government and put it to productive use. The National Technical Information Service, a unit within the department, is leading the effort. NTIS has selected 35 joint venture partners, or JVPs, to support the program.
The department’s aims not only to improve data management by federal agencies, but also to facilitate the generation and sharing of data within the federal government.

Apple to Lawmakers: We'll Help but No Backdoors


Apple’s top legal official on Tuesday appeared before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee and reiterated the company’s willingness to help law enforcement on active cases and cooperate on long-term solutions, despite its contentious legal battle with the FBI over the encrypted iPhone used in the San Bernardino terrorist attack. Apple “works daily on an operational level” with law enforcement on a number of cases, General Counsel Bruce Sewell told legislators.

China Levels Antitrust Allegations Against Microsoft


China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce on Tuesday launched the latest in a series of investigations against Microsoft for possible violations of the country’s antimonopoly law. Back in July 2014, about 100 SAIC officials burst into four Microsoft offices in various parts of China and copied contracts and records, downloaded data from company servers, and questioned executives. The latest probe seeks answers to major questions arising from the data seized, according to news reports.
