Banking Customer Satisfaction Barometer Inches Up


Customer satisfaction with banking institutions improved last year, based on the annual Bank Satisfaction Barometer CFI Group released Thursday. Customers were more likely to remain bank loyal to their bank and even recommend it to others, according to the annual survey of bank customers across the United States. Banks improved their standing with customers and maintained stronger relationships, with the Bank Satisfaction Barometer reaching a four-year-high of 82, up three points from 79 in 2015.

Yahoo Sets Itself Up for Buyout


Yahoo on Friday announced that it has hired banking advisers and formed a committee to explore its strategic alternatives, the latest indication that the struggling company is serious about pursuing a possible sale. The committee, along with advisers Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase and PJT Partners, will identify and recommend to the board of directors transactions that it deems beneficial to employees and shareholders. “All of us here at Yahoo want to return this iconic company to greatness,” CEO Marissa Mayer said.

Banks Bemoan Feds' Plan to Publish Complaining Consumers' Stories


The banking industry is up in arms over the United States Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s plan to publish consumer complaint narratives about financial institutions on the Web. Consumers would have to opt in to have their complaints published. The CFPB would strip out all personally identifiable information. The idea is to expand the existing complaint database to include the customer’s description of what happened. “In many ways, the narratives are the most insightful part of a complaint,” the bureau said.

On-Premises Banks Stick It to Walmart Customers


Walmart customers who use the banking services provided inside the chain’s stores are among the highest payers of fees — especially overdraft fees — in the U.S., an analysis of federal filings concluded. The five banks with the most Walmart branches reportedly ranked among the top 10 U.S. banks in fee income as a percentage of deposits last year, compared to other U.S. banks that earn most of their income through lending.
It is a notable finding, especially given Walmart’s reputation for providing low-cost products at significant savings.
