Next Downturn Could Have Silver Lining for IoT

Although nearly every research study and industry survey suggests the Internet of Things market is growing rapidly, plenty of companies are holding back from pursuing IoT opportunities. Many retailers jumped the gun, and have been offering special online deals for days. Cyber Monday in recent years has ranked as the third largest holiday shopping day, following Super Saturday and Black Friday. FBI Director Raps Clinton but Recommends No Criminal Action

Although an FBI investigation concluded that Hillary Clinton’s use of a separate email system during her tenure as Secretary of State may have violated federal law, Director James B. Comey on Tuesday recommended against pursuing any criminal prosecution. “Our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” he said. Considered in light of the bureau’s actions in similar cases in the past, Comey explained, the facts in the Clinton case do not warrant the filing of criminal charges.

Mainstream Industries Form IoT Vanguard

Although the consumer implications of the Internet of Things have generated plenty of public attention, the real growth in the embryonic market is coming from less visible industrial environments and business applications. The early IoT advancements may come as a surprise to some, but in these industries, organizations moving quickly to deploy more connected products and services makes sense for a number of reasons. Less than a third of the 465 IT and business professionals who responded to a Gartner survey last fall were using IoT at the time.
