proVanceTek dabbles in event planning
proVanceTek has always provided video, sound, and lighting support for individual components of an event, but it's only been recently that we decided: "Hey, why aren't we providing any all-inclusive solutions for people's events? Why are we just doing one thing or the other?"
proVanceTek works with a couple local vendors with whom we have had a positive relationship for years. Our company provides the creative design concepts that tie together all the technical elements of your event - sound, video, and lighting. We will work with your entertainer, caterer, event planner, and anyone else you've hired to perfect your event - We just happen to have the experience necessary to tie the technical finishing touches into your wedding, reception, gala, etc.

USITT 2009 Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio
This weekend we visited USITT Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.
What is USITT you might ask? Most audiences at a performance don’t stop to consider everything it takes to get to that point. The performance is just the tip of the entertainment iceberg. So much creativity and hard work go into scenes, lighting, costumes, sound, make-up, stage managing, and the performance area itself not to mention keeping everyone safe. It is the design, production, and technology professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry that the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) has served since 1960. USITT provides an environment for these professionals to connect, create, share, and communicate their craft.
What specifically is the Annual Conference you may wonder? It's the combination of professional, university educators and students, secondary educators, and even novice theatre technicians who come to learn about the latest technical theatre trends from theatrical vendors - who bring the latest and greatest technology - and presenters - who have seminars covering management, lighting, sound, costuming, state makeup, etc.
USITT's 49th Annual Conference & Stage Expo held in Cincinnati was a huge success with record attendance. The 2010 Annual Conference will be held in Kansas City, Missouri and in 2011 it will be in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hilliard Memorial Middle School Awards Ceremony
We were asked to provide professional live sound and video production services for the Hilliard Memorial Middle School 2007-2008 School Year Awards Ceremony. The event was held in the Hilliard Davidson High School Performing Arts Center.
The event usually consists of the awards ceremony portion, followed by live talent show style entertainment provided by the teachers from Memorial. Due to sticky contract negotiations between the school board and Hilliard teachers, the administration of Memorial Middle School was hesitant to ask teachers to spend unpaid extracurricular time for the project. Instead, the staff (during their conference breaks, before school, and after school) created a couple entertaining videos to be played for the students at the awards ceremony.
We provided minimal post production editing services (they already had the videos pretty much ready to go live), live video production services to professionally project the video on the movie screen and broadcast the video into overflow seating areas outside the auditorium, and live audio engineering.

The Greater Columbus Community Orchestra Concert
proVanceTek provided theatrical technical services to The Greater Columbus Community Orchestra for their May 18th concert held at Hilliard Davidson High School.
As mentioned in a recent Columbus Dispatch article: "A grant from the Hilliard Arts Council will aid the oldest and largest community orchestra in central Ohio. And to signify an expansion of its mission, the Upper Arlington Community Orchestra is renaming itself the Greater Columbus Community Orchestra."
proVanceTek provided complete lighting and sound support. Hilliard Davidson Performing Arts Center provides lighting and sound equipment for use when community events take place in the facility or when the facility is rented to an outside organization, however, the facilities technical staff is usually required to be present and on the payroll as event staff. proVanceTek has been hired on occasion to act as subcontractor for such events when there is a conflict in staff scheduling.

Lighting Consulting for Columbus State Community College Downtown Digital Arts Festival
In conjunction with Brite Lites Incorporated, proVanceTek provided theatrical lighting contracting services for the Second Annual Columbus State Community College Downtown Digital Arts Festival. The festival showcased work by student artists in animation, digital music, digital design, digital photography, and video.
The Downtown Digital Arts Festival brings together student photographers, designers, and artists, for a three-day event, designed to educate, to inspire, and to entertain. The display showcases the Best in Category and Honorable Mention winners’ works. The culminating event was held May 7th, 8th & 9th. Winners were honored and presented their awards and the public was able to meet the winners and view all works.
The theatrical lighting specifications for the event were simple, but included: four ETC Source Four fixtures hung on 12' boom/base/side-arm rigs, two ETC PARNells on bases, a handful of 3" Fresnels on bases, 16' of four channel rope light, three six channel DMX dimmer packs, a twelve channel DMX lighting console, a bunch of DMX cable, and a slew of various extension cables. Nothing too complicated, but the event turned out very elegant.

Bishop Ready High School Musical - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
We were subcontracted by Brite Lites Incorporated, of Columbus, to deliver and install some rental theatrical lighting equipment for the Bishop Ready High School student production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
After installed, we trained the students how to operate the lighting equipment. Once the production's last show is over, we will be going back over to the high school to assist students in the disassembly of the equipment and then return it to Brite Lites. The rental equipment was to simply supplement their existing, insufficient lighting in the venue.
The production will be presented February 22, 2008 at 7pm; February 23, 2008 at 2pm; and February 24, 2008 at both 2pm and 7pm. The high school is located at Mound Street and Salisbury Road. General admission will be $8, seniors (those 65 year of age and older) are $7, and students are $6. For more info, call Bishop Ready High School at 276-5263.
Sound and Lighting Tech for Hilliard Five By Design Concert
Five By Design is one of the nation's leading performing arts and symphony pops attractions, the Minneapolis-based vocal quintet is the creative talent behind musical retrospectives of Radio Days, Club Swing, Stay Tuned, and A Winter's Evening.
The Hilliard Arts Council is bringing "Five By Design," a group of five singers for a 7:00pm February 10, 2008 performance at the Hilliard Davidson Performing Arts Center.
The Hilliard Arts Council brought in Robert Nelson Vance, owner of proVanceTek, as an outside consultant and contractor, in 2005 when Five By Design came to Hilliard the first time. He was once again asked back this year.
Several visits have already been made to Davidson Theatre to hang and focus lighting for the event. Further assistance for the upcoming Sunday evening performance will include the hanging and focusing of additional lighting instruments and the load-in and interfacing of Five By Design sound equipment.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for senior citizens and students. In order to hopefully fill the auditorium for this performance there is a $5 discount for all tickets ordered by January 20, 2007. Tickets can be ordered by calling 527-4407 or by emailing Ken Brenneman.

Theatrical Lighting Assistance For Hilliard Davidson High School
Robert Nelson Vance, owner or proVanceTek, received a phone call asking if we had any availability to help prepare the Hilliard Davidson Performing Arts Center for a touring show to be brought in by the Hilliard Arts Council this weekend.
Five By Design, a touring, Minneapolis-based, vocal quintet sent Hilliard Davidsona technical rider that required a significant number of lighting instruments to be hung and focused before they arrived.
We worked with the Hilliard Davidson High School Technical Director to hang and focus a GI (general illumination) light plot for the upcoming school related events. Then we hung and focused the specials that were required for the touring show.
We should make note that this is usually work that's entirely done by high school students as a part of the Hilliard Davidson technical theatre program. Unfortunately, due to time restraints and the number of other programs to schedule around, this technical work needed to be done quickly and precisely. Infact, Hilliard Davidson has hosted a number of touring Broadway shows over the years, where stagehand positions have always been entirely staffed by students. This time, however, there simply wasn't enough time available for this to be another educational experience for the students - hence why we were contacted.
